I was extremely inspired by the work by Susan Sydall that she presented during my 2nd visit to the Textile Course ran by Tom Evans. Her art involved so many different techniques, textures and colours and I liked her choice of paper to use instead of cloth. I shall certainly be looking into trying paper myself.
Susan's ideas mainly comes from landscape and often natural landscape. Through photographs she tends to transfer those images and ideas onto paper and often using brusho paint and stitch she then develops those images and ideas leading to what often results in the look of an abstract piece of art.
Also though I thought that Susan's obsession with telephone poles and electricity pylons was beautifully quirky and enjoyed the fact that these images formed such engaging pieces of textile art.
My overall reaction to Susan Sydall's visit is that of inspiration and this morning I ventured out through the back streets of Bolton with my camera taking photographs of things that most ordinary people would shake their head at. Although, I kind of like that.
Here are a few photographs of Susan Sydall's work.
